Alphons Egli

Alphons Egli ( born October 8, 1924 in Lucerne; citizens of Entlebuch and Lucerne ) is a Swiss politician ( CVP). As he was Federal Minister of the Interior and held once the Office of the President.

Life

The son of the Lucerne Governing Council and Council of States Gotthard Egli studied law at the University of Zurich, the Pontifical Gregorian University and the University of Bern and graduated in 1949 with a doctorate. From 1952 to 1982 he was a lawyer and notary public.

In 1963 he was elected to the Grand Civic Council of the city of Lucerne and led this office until 1967. In 1967 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Lucerne, where he spent eight years of his political career. In 1971, he ran unsuccessfully for the House of Representatives, from 1975 he was a member of the Council of States.

On December 8, 1982 Egli was elected to the Federal Council. He stood in front of the Swiss Federal Department of Home Affairs. Its probably the most important issue was the environment: In connection with the death of forests he sat through measures on air pollution. He was President in 1986.

As President, he apologized on June 3, 1986 officially for the Jenischen in Switzerland wrongs and headed to his resignation a Fund Commission, which resigned from child took away, institution admissions etc. Jenische concerned with sums of money between 2000 and 7000 francs.

Egli resigned for health reasons 31 December 1986 the Federal Council back. He is Altherr the Swiss student association and the sections Semper Fidelis Lucerne, Agaunia St. Maurice and Burgundia Bern.
