Alphonso Johnson

Alphonso Johnson ( born 1951 in Philadelphia ) is an American jazz bassist of modern jazz and rock jazz.

Biography

Originally, Johnson trombone, but he specialized in the instrument electric bass. His musical career began in the early 1970s; at that time, he worked with various jazz musicians such as Chet Baker and Woody Herman. Johnson eventually became a member of the jazz rock band Weather Report, took the place of Miroslav Vitous.

He appeared on the album Mysterious Traveller by Weather Report with, then took two more albums with the band, but then left the band and worked with Billy Cobham, George Duke and the Crusaders. Thereafter, Johnson worked briefly as a bassist of the rock band Genesis as a replacement for Steve Hackett left Genesis in 1977.

Johnson's role models are Stanley Clarke and Steve Swallow.

Johnson came on his real work as a musician out again and again as bassist instructor in appearance. So he taught, for example, at home Mesar Institute of Music in Tokyo, at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles and the California Institute of the Arts. Seminars and workshops have taken him to Germany, UK, France, Australia, Brazil and Argentina.
