Alpilles

The Alpilles (French Massif des Alpilles, dt Alpilles ) are a chain of limestone in the heart of Provence, between Avignon, Cavaillon, Arles. Your extension is in east-west direction and about 30 in the north-south direction for about 10 km, reaching altitudes of 300 to 500 meters. The highest point is the " Les Opie " with 498 meters. The highly rugged mountain ranges stand out bright against the blue, especially at Mistral very clear sky.

The mountain tops are bald and only sporadically covered with plants of the maquis. On the southern side of the Alpilles is one of the largest growing areas in France for olives. Numerous olive oil mills in the Vallée -des- Baux to Mouriès and Maussane -les -Alpilles produce one of the best olive oils in the world.
