Alpine Brigade Taurinense

The Alpini Brigade " Taurinense " is one of the two remaining brigades of mountain troops of the Italian army. The associations of the Brigade are mostly stationed in the Italian Western Alps. A native of the ancient name " Taurinense " refers to the city of Turin, in which is located the headquarters of the brigade.

Order

The Alpini Brigade " Taurinense " is subordinate to the Mountain Troops command Comalp in Bolzano. It forms from mountain troops and make it available for peace-keeping missions in the framework of the EU, NATO and the UN, to meet NATO alliance obligations or national defense. If necessary, the brigade also handles support and backup tasks on behalf of civilian agencies.

All regiments of the brigade have battalion strength. The associations of Taurinense are stationed in the Italian Western Alps (Piedmont), the 9th Alpini Regiment in the central Italian region of Abruzzo.

Equipment

The regiments of the brigade have multi-purpose vehicles of the type VTLM Lince, on light armored vehicles by type puma and mountain suitable for chain type vehicles Bv206S. The cavalry regiment is equipped with Radpanzern type Centauro. The mountain artillery is equipped with the howitzer FH -70 ( 155 mm). History

The brigade was erected in 1923 in Turin as the 1st Alpini Group, which in 1926 the designation 1st Alpini Brigade led and consisted of the 1st 2nd, 3rd and 4th Alpini Regiment, as well as from the 1st Mountain Artillery Regiment. 1935 went out of the 1st Brigade Alpini Division Taurinense forth, who was now the 3rd and 4th Alpini Regiment, and the 1st Mountain Artillery Regiment ( the 1st and 2nd Regiment went to the new 4th Alpini Division Cuneense in Cuneo). From the Alpini Brigade Julia the Taurinense took over the 9th Alpini Regiment, which traditionally consists of personnel from the central Italian region of Abruzzo and is also stationed there.
