Alpine (email client)

Alpine is a free email program that is being developed at the University of Washington.

Alpine 1.0 was published on 20 December 2007.

Alpine is a new version of the Pine message system, which has been expanded to include support for Unicode and other features. Alpine is designed for both inexperienced email user as well as for demanding, experienced users. Alpine is like Pine previously developed at the University of Washington. Alpine can be learned by trial and error and by using the context-sensitive help. The user interface is customizable.

Licensing

Alpine is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2. On 29 November 2006 the first alpha version was released publicly, whereas the alpha test of Pine were always non-public.

Functions

Alpine shares many common features with console applications, such as a large number of keyboard shortcuts to the entire navigation and operation using the keyboard instead of the mouse do, can. In fact, all operations in Alpine have a keyboard shortcut.
