Alpine-Nationalpark

The Alpine National Park (English Alpine National Park ) is located in the Australian state of Victoria, northeast of the city of Melbourne. With an area of ​​6474 km ², it is the largest national park in Victoria. Its territory protects the highest mountains of the state and includes a large part of the mountains of the Great Dividing Range and is one of eight national parks, protecting the Australian Alps.

The park borders the Kosciuszko National Park in the neighboring German state of New South Wales and includes one of the few regions of Australia who have in the ( southern) winter regular snowfall.

Animal and plant life

The National Park has a very different animal world and is home to endangered species such as the endemic Australian rodent species Smokey Mouse ( Pseudomys fumeus ), the Australian broad- toothed rat, the Riesenkauz ( Ninox strenua ), the amphibian Spencer 's River Tree Frog ( Litoria spenceri ) and the Skinkart ( Cyclodomorphus casuarinae ).

Also remarkable is the occurrence of Bergbilchbeutlers, the only marsupial, which is known that it creates provisions for the winter.

Search Bogong moths in the higher areas of the National Park in crevices etc. Protection from the heat in other regions and are thus an important food source for the Bergbilchbeutler and living here society crows (Corvus mellori ).

A total of over 1,100 plant species have been found in the park, many of which are specially adapted to the harsh winter climate. 12 species are found worldwide only here, including the Korbblüterart Bogong Daisy -bush ( Olearia frostii ) and Silky Daisy ( Olearia myrsinoides ).

Leisure

Due to the Alpine National Park, part of the 655 km long Australian Alps Walking Track, a long distance path runs through the high mountain regions of the fifth continent. Besides walking in the park offer winter sports, the opportunity to use the mountain bikes and fishing.
