Alpine skiing at the 2006 Winter Olympics

In the XX. 2006 Winter Olympics were held ten competitions in Alpine skiing.

Seven of the ten competitions took place in Sestriere ( 100 km west of Turin ) held on three different slopes. In the district of Borgata (about two kilometers from the summit ) was the slope Kandahar Banchetta ( downhill, super -G and combination of men); the capacity was 8.560 spectators.

In the district of Colle ( directly on top of the pass located ), the slopes were Sises ( giant slalom women and men) and Giovanni A. Agnelli (slalom men and women ); the capacity was there 8,000 spectators.

Three races were held in the winter sports resort of San Sicario on the territory of the municipality Cesana Torinese place (97 km west of Turin ). There, the departure, the Super -G and the combination of the women were discharged on the slopes Fraiteve. The seating capacity was 6,160.

Super -G

Date: February 18, 2006, 14:45 Clock. Range: " Kandahar Banchetta " Start: 2536 m, target: 1886 m Difference in altitude: 650 m, distance: 2325 m Course Setters: Andreas Evers, 39 goals 63 runners were at the start, 56 of them reached the goal.

The launch took place initially at 11:00 clock. The race was but canceled due to heavy snowfall and dense fog after 17 riders and first moved to 13:30 clock, then to 14:45 clock.

The competition should have originally held on 19 February at 12:00 clock, but was postponed because of poor weather conditions one day, on February 20, then again from 12:00 clock to 14:45 clock.

Giant Slalom

In case of bad weather conditions ( heavy snow and dense fog ) was the leading after the first round U.S. American Julia Mancuso leave the competition behind. They won against the lying in third place after the first passage Finn Tanja Poutiainen and Sweden's Anna Ottosson, which improved in the second race from 13th on the Bronze Square. World Champion Anja Parson fell back to sixth place in the second race of the second.

Slalom

Anja Parson led after the first passage and realized sovereign her first Olympic victory. Nicole Hosp secured the silver medal with the best time in the second run. Marlies Schild, who still stood after the first passage on the 6th place, won by silver in the combination of her second Olympic medal 2006. Mitfavoritin and defending champion Janica Kostelic, who won the slalom and at the World Championships in 2003 and 2005, failed as Fourth a medal. Michaela Kirchgasser completed as 5 the good result of the runners from Austria. Annemarie Gerg took a good 7th place. Monika Bergmann - Schmuderer was ranked 16 They were not Swiss citizens at the start.
