Alpos

ALPOS (Greek Ἄλπος ) is in the Greek mythology a fearsome giant who dwelt on Peloriasgebirge, the north-eastern promontory of Sicily. He was a son of Gaia, was similar to the Medusa vipers as hair and was so huge that he could touch the sun and moon.

Third year i tried to overpower the grazing through his mountain area Dionysus, by hurling boulders and tree trunks on him, but was pierced by the thyrsus of Dionysus.

Since there are no sources other than the Dionysiaca of Nonnus of Panopolis is impossible to say whether Nonnus here a local myth reproduces, or whether the giant sprang to his invention.
