Alsen, Sweden

Alsen is a parish in the northern Swedish community Krokom. The church belongs to the diocese Alsen Härnösand and is located about 50 kilometers northwest of the capital, Östersund Jämtland.

History

Alsen is located on Alsensjön in the western area of the historical county of Jämtland County Jämtland County today.

In Glösa are up to 6000 year old rock carvings. Alsen belonged from 1178 to 1536 to Norway and from 1537 to 1645 together with Norway to Denmark. 1645 came Als by the Peace of Brömsebro to Sweden.

Until 1974 Alsen was a separate municipality.

Economy and infrastructure

Alsen has long been dominated by a traditional peasant culture. Smaller industries there is, especially in Trångsviken on large lake. Trangia AB is a Swedish company that manufactures since 1925, Spirit stove. Its headquarters is in Trångsviken.
