Alseuosmiaceae

Alseuosmia macrophylla, illustration.

The Alseuosmiaceae are a plant family in the order of the aster -like ( Asterales ). The species are found in New Zealand, located in eastern Australia, New Caledonia and New Guinea.

Description

There are shrubs. The leaves are alternate and spirally arranged or in Scheinquirlen on the branches. The simple leaves have a serrated or toothed margin. Stipules absent.

The flowers are single, bündelig in the leaf axils or rarely racemose inflorescences together. The hermaphrodite, radial symmetry flowers are usually fünfzählig (rarely four or siebenzählig ) and fragrant in some species. The sepals are free. The petals are fused. The four to seven stamens are with each other freely, but fused with the petals. Two carpels are fused to a (sometimes only partially ) inferior ovary. As diaspore ( propagule ) the berry that contains very small seeds and is often surrounded by sepals serves.

Systematics and distribution with descriptions

The Alseuosmiaceae form with the Phellinaceae and Argophyllaceae a kinship group within the Asterales. A synonym is Platyspermataceae Doweld. These genera were classified as early in the families Caprifoliaceae, Rubiaceae, Rutaceae, Ericaceae and Epacridaceae.

The family consists of three to five kinds with approximately eight to eleven species:

  • Alseuosmia A.Cunn. Four to six types: Alseuosmia banksii A.Cunn. It is probably the kind with the sweetest smelling flowers of the New Zealand flora. Alseuosmia banksii A.Cunn. var banksii
  • Alseuosmia banksii var linariifolia R.O.Gardner
  • Crispiloba disperma S.Moore: Based in northeastern Queensland (Australia).
  • Periomphale neo- caledonia ( Gilg. et Schltr. ) Steenis: A shrub in New Caledonia.
  • Wittsteinia balansae (syn. Periomphale balansae Baill. ): A shrub found in New Caledonia.
  • Wittsteinia vacciniacea: A subshrub in Victoria (Australia).
