Alsheim is a municipality in Rheinhessen in the Alzey -Worms in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality calibration.

Geography

The village to the hamlet Hangen- choice home is surrounded by vineyards at the foot of the Rhine-Hesse Rhine terraces between Mainz and Worms. Benefiting from its central location between the metropolitan areas of the Rhine- Main and Rhine- Neckar to Alsheim has long since become an outspoken residential community. New building land will reinforce this trend. Nevertheless, the wine still shapes the character of the village. With over 700 hectares of vines Alsheim is one of the most important wine-growing villages of Rheinhessen, Germany's largest wine-growing region. The wines, predominantly from traditional white and red grape varieties are well known for their quality. Hiking trails and a wine trail, with views over the Rhine valley open up together with cycle paths the landscape. There are several inns and wineries. The town has good rail and road links.

History

By the end of the 18th century belonged to the Palatine Alsheim Oberamt Alzey. During the so-called French occupation of the city was the seat of a canton in the Mairie Bechtheim, who was part of the department Thunder Mountain. To Mairie Alsheim also included slope Wahlheim. Because of the 1815 taken at the Congress of Vienna agreements concluded between 1816 and Hesse, Prussia and Austria State Treaty, the region, and thus the community Alsheim came to the Grand Duchy of Hesse and assigned by this province Rheinhessen. After the dissolution of Rhinehessen cantons the place came in 1835 to the recently completed Worms, to which he belonged until 1969.

The local council in Alsheim consists of 20 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 in a personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Culture and sights

Structures

  • Catholic Parish of the Assumption, with late Baroque high altar, which dates from the Worms Andreasstift. On this altar there is a grape Madonna and Child, which was created in 1460.
  • Protestant parish church, formerly St. Boniface, with remains of a mural cycle, which arose in the mid-14th century. Shown is the legend of the 10,000 Martyrs on Mount Ararat as well as scenes from the life of Jesus.

Regular events

  • Cycling in the Rhine May on the old B 9, now the L 439, between Oppenheim and Worms Herrnsheim. In Alsheim here are some wineries, especially at the track in the Mainzer Straße / Bachstraße / Wormser Strasse, open to cyclists, skaters and joggers.
  • Alsheimer notch in September
  • Alsheimer Wine Hiking on the third Sunday in September: It is 12 km migrated through the Alsheimer vineyards, it is eaten and drunk and tried grapes, then is turned around into different wineries.

Economy and infrastructure

Alsheim is significantly influenced by winegrowing and with 704 hectares under vine, of which 69.3 percent is white and 30.7 percent red wines, to Worms ( 1,490 hectares), Nierstein ( 783 hectares), Alzey ( 769 acres ) and West Mayrhofen ( 764 acres ) largest wine growing district of Rheinhessen and one of the largest in the entire state of Rhineland- Palatinate. A scenic peculiarity Alsheim has to offer with its large system of hollow ways. 11.5 km of this caused by human use for centuries paths are in the district Alsheim still available and are ideal for hiking and walks. In the summer months ravines and guided tours are available for photographers and special photo excursions.

Traffic

  • Street: Alsheim is right on the main road 9, on the main tangent Worms- Mainz. Within a few minutes the A63 motorway at exit Biebelnheim or A61 at the exit Worms / Mörstadt or Gundersheim are achievable.
  • Railroad: In the heart of Alsheim is a train station, transport to the trains of VRN and DB travelers of Alsheim from a direct route to Worms and Mainz.
