Alsómocsolád

Alsómocsolád ( German: Metschelad ) is a municipality in Hungary. The 337 inhabitants (conditions 2011) scoring village is situated in Baranya county, bordering the Tolna county. In the south Alsómocsolád borders the Mecsek by the east are smaller forested hills while the West is characterized by flatter area. By hydrologically favorable location and the temperate climate, the area is characterized by intensive farming has always been. West of the village center there are two larger fish ponds.

Location

Alsómocsolád is located approximately in the middle between the Komitatshauptstätten Pécs, Kaposvar and Bonyhád. The village has no through road and is only accessible by a road from Mágocs from. By car you can reach the three smaller cities of Komló, Dombóvár and Bonyhád in about 30 minutes. The spa town of Gunaras with its thermal spa is just 20 km away. Situated 3 km outside of the village is a station on the railway line built in 1872 Dombóvár - Bataszek. In the north Alsómocsolád borders the villages Mágocs and Bikal.

History

In Alsómocsolád finds from the Bronze Age as well as from the Roman period have been made. From this period also dates a silver medal, which was found here in 1296. The first mention of Mocsolad dates from the year 1294, under the name Mocholay or Mocsolay. At this time, the settlement was in the possession of the monastery of Veszprém and the village belonged to the Bodó, Perczel and Sztankovánszky.

Attractions

St. Andrew's Church

This Catholic church located in the center of the village. It was built on behalf of the family Perczel - Sztankovansky 1836-1926. The church contains elaborate wall paintings inside. In 1977 the church from the outside and restored inside 1993.

Castle Sztankovansky

Originally privately owned, the castle was used during the Soviet period as a primary and secondary school after the owners were expropriated. After the end of the Soviet Union, the castle was returned to the descendants of the rightful owner, and was occasionally used as a guesthouse. Currently (2012 ), it is not accessible to the public.
