Alt Camp
The comarca of Alt Camp (Eng. " the Upper Country ", Spanish Alto Campo ) is located in the province of Tarragona of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia (Spain). The community association has an area of 538 km ² and 45,001 inhabitants (2009 ). The Old Camp is one of three comarcas, in which the Camp de Tarragona was divided in 1936.
Location
The community association is located in the southern part of Catalonia, north of the provincial capital city of Tarragona. It is bordered on the north by the comarca of Conca de Barbera, to the east by Anoia and Alt Penedès, Baix Penedès and to the south and to the west Tarragonès Baix Camp. Together with the Comarcas Baix Camp, Baix Penedès, Conca de Barberà, Priorat and Tarragonès forms the region 's territory Camp de Tarragona.
Alt Camp is situated in a reaching to the Mediterranean coastal plain, which is bounded on the north-west and south-east by a chain of mountain ranges that are part of the Vorküstengebirges. The rivers Gaia and Francoli flow through the Comarca from north to south with irregular water supply.
Climate
The mountain ranges in the north and east protect the climate of Zentralkatalanischen lowlands and are the reason for the pronounced Mediterranean climate.
Traffic
The Comarca by a highway ( AP-2/E90 ), highways and railways well developed. The airport of Reus is on the C- 14, which is expanded to 4 lanes from Alcover, be reached quickly.
Economy
In agriculture, the cultivation of dry fruits (almonds and hazelnuts), olives, wine and grain predominates. Breeding of livestock predominate poultry and pigs.
