Geographical Location

Altenmarkt is situated at the confluence of the rivers Alz and Traun. Distance to the city of Traunstein 18 km, the state capital Munich about 82 km, to Landshut about 91 km, according to Passau about 115 km.

History

The place Altenmarkt an der Alz was named after the founding of the northern in the immediate vicinity of the "new" market Trostberg about 750 years ago. He was for centuries one marked by small craft village at the foot of the monastery Baumburg. In addition, Altenmarkt was due to its location at the junction of the Alz, where the location fulfilled the function of a customs and trade place of importance. The village was part of the Electorate of Bavaria and formed a closed Hofmark of the monastery. Around 1803 completed the basic and local rule of the monastery Baumburg.
