Since the first half of the 2nd century Old Town garrison of an unknown number was ( see main article: Castle Old town). He was first stationed in a nearly one -acre fort. It was rectangular and had a safety fence made of wood and earth, and was surrounded by a moat. A gate and a corner tower are known. Of the internal buildings are known traces of various buildings. Well by 135 AD a new fort is then built. It probably had more than 1 ha size and balustrades turf. The northern half of the fort was moved slightly to the west. The plant had four gates, turrets and was surrounded by a moat. An internal buildings a unterkellerter Vorratsbau and remnants of the Principia, commander of the house and a troop barracks are known.

Around the year 150 was built by a rectangular ground plan with four gates, corner towers and numerous intermediate towers, a 1.5 -hectare (132 mx 114 m) stone fort. Two trenches surrounded the fort. From the internal buildings, one knows a pool of water and remnants of the Principia, the alleged commander of the house, of troop barracks and other buildings. Prior to the deployment of the humerus were located at the same place two small forts. They had a safety fence made of wood and earth and a ditch. The camp village stretched on all sides.

The Roman military sites in the Old City obviously had the task to lock a probably pre-Roman path, which came along by the Nidder in the Vogelsberg and on to Fulda, and the only 5 km away Glauberg to monitor, in pre-Roman times the seat of a Celtic Prince and had been on the settled the Germans after the withdrawal of the Celts. But the Romans tolerated neither Celtic nor Germanic on any hilltop settlements in or on the edge of their dominions. Today, the fort area is built over almost completely. The history of the fortification is quite complicated as it evolved over the years from a small ski jump at a Numerus ( number = unit of about 150 men ). The fort was destroyed twice in the second half of the 2nd century and the big Alemanni incidence by 233 AD An inscription stone from the year 242 AD, which has already been salvaged in 1603 from a well, suggests that the AD fort had been occupied until the end of the limes in the year 260.

It belonged to the German Empire for free Kaichen court, which came under the rule of the castle county of Friedberg in the 15th century. With this, it fell in 1806 Hesse -Darmstadt.
