After the flood in February 1990 in Nagoldtal between Altensteig and Ebhausen in the field nuns meadow small Stone Age artifacts found ( so-called " Stray finds " ), especially Paleolithic, such as preliminary estimates showed that evoked in the professional world attention. Then the former Landesdenkmalamt Baden -Württemberg led each in the summers 1991 and 1995 excavations. Here they found numerous small stone artifacts such as scratches or pricks who belonged exclusively to the Middle Stone Age (Mesolithic ) and thus the temporal classification of Stray finds of 1990 featured more in question. The investigation of the archaeological finds of the Landesdenkmalamt gave an approximate time horizon 10000-8500 BC traces of settlement or structures were not identifiable or deducible by finds. It is therefore of a bin or a field station of nomadic groups mainly from the Middle Stone Age, which was possibly temporarily visited several times.

History

Since Altensteig belonged to the parish Altensteig village to 1570, one can assume that Altensteig village and its parish arose prior Altensteig. Until 1715 Altensteiger residents were buried in the cemetery of the Old village gate.

The name " Old Trail" was first mentioned in 1100 in documents related to Henry of old trail. The sometimes still cited alleged first mention of the name Ancient climb of 1085 goes back to the ethnologist Friedrich Heinz Schmidt- Ebhausen of 1950 and was soon exhausted.

Perhaps Henry of Altensteig is already, as later the lords of old sidewalk, in the context of a now largely forgotten castle ( " to tower "). This castle stood - in contrast to the later, visible today castle or palace complex - on the spur of the so-called Castle Hill beneath the industrial park tower box to the right of the Nagold. On the Schlossberg are still low wall and highly visible grave remains available. The spur is from the streets tower platforms and Schloßbergstr. framed, indicate their names still on the historic site. Maybe Altensteig initially developed as a small castle hamlet at the foot of the castle. The masters or overseers of Altensteig were vassals of the Count Palatine of Tübingen ..

In July 1287 now finds the " Castrum Altin days " - the Old Palace and today, medieval-looking castle - first documentary mention. At the same time thus certainly a settlement is meant the castle. Some historians believe that the settlement was in 1287 had the status of a city. 1280 came Altensteig under the rule of the county Hohenberg. 1398 acquired Margrave Bernard I von Baden the place. 1603 came Altensteig the Duchy Württemberg and became the seat of the Office Old riser, which was converted to the upper office Altensteig 1808. After only two years, the chief official was dissolved again and Altensteig came to Oberamt Nagold.

Altensteiger parish

Altensteig was for centuries the seat of the so-called Altensteiger parish. The parish stretched along the original extent of the parish of Altensteig village and comprised the districts of the towns Altensteig, oil field, over a mountain, Fünfbronn, Beuren, Lengenloch and Ettmannsweiler well as the territories of today's villages Gompelscheuer and Enzkloesterle up to Hohloh. Accordingly, the name belonged to the former places long the parish Altensteig village and made compulsory labor for the mother church Altensteig village. Especially this parish formed an unincorporated community similar to a forest cooperative or Mark Community, including management and senior representative body in which all residents with citizenship extensive as free forest use rights had, whether for forest grazing or timber harvesting ( timber and firewood ) for their own use. Furthermore, they were both the streams for watering cattle and for fishing are available. All rights extended only to the private personal use. Thus passed some similarities with the privileges and rights of use of the earlier Dornstetter Waldgedings in the vicinity of the northern Black Forest. 1303, the rights of the parish was first mentioned in 1830 it was dissolved. The real, local manorial ownership had this unusually, no limiting effect on the rights of the " parish family " ( = parish residents with civil rights ).
