Alternative Press

History

The first issue of Alternative Press was a simple copied fanzine, which dealt with concerts in Cleveland, Ohio. This was published in June 1985 and was written by Mike Shea. This really liked the music that was played in radio stations, and was not of the opinion that underground bands should get more opportunities.

The first years of Alternative Press were characterized by financial problems, Shea borrowed money several times from his mother. However, in late 1986, the magazine has been completely adjusted, until the spring of 1988 should again appear a rest.

Alternative Press has always been known by the increasing popularity of alternative rock in the early 90s. In addition, bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Soundgarden were selected before their mainstream success for the cover of the magazine.

Nowadays, an issue of Alternative Press comprises 198-220 pages. Alternative Press is the main sponsor of the Warped Tour, the Taste of Chaos tour of their own, as well as The AP Tour. The head office is still in Cleveland.
