Altersbach

Age is a municipality in the district Schmalkalden- Meiningen in Thuringia. It belongs to the administrative community Haselgrund, which has its headquarters in the town of Viernau.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest.

History

The "Franken Steiner bill of sale " of 1330, in which the lords of Frankenstein sold a lot of their possessions to the related to them were Counts of Henneberg - Schleusingen, also a village " Alharts " is called, behind the suspected today's age Bach. For the first time the city in 1340 was mentioned as a deserted village named Altusbach. About the early history of the place and the reason why he was without form, like 1340, is not known. However, its foundation is probably due to the early stage of mining in Arzberg and the nearby historic road through the Thuringian Forest. In the 12th century it probably came with the surrounding area as a hen bergischer possession to the Official Schmalkalden, which stood since 1360 under hen Berg and Hessian dual power and completely fell to the Hesse- Kassel after the extinction of Henneberger 1583. In 1791 the town was the Office Hallenberg in Schmalkalden affiliated. Age Bach was dominated almost purely agricultural until the 19th century, then the Nagelschmiede craft gained in importance place, and after the onset of industrialization in the late 19th century, the town was on the commuter settlement for industrial workers in neighboring Steinbach- Hallenberg. 1891 Age Bach received a railroad stop.

The honorary mayor Prof. Dr. Horst Schäfer was first elected on 28 November 1999 and re-elected on 27 June 2004 and 6 June 2010.
