History

Upper and lower Altertheim were first mentioned in a document from the year 775. The present municipality was formerly a part of the county Castell, which lay in the Frankish Empire Circle from 1500. 1806 lower and Oberaltertheim were mediated in Bavaria's favor. The villages were in 1810 ( Grenzpurifikation ) left the Grand Duchy of Würzburg of Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany, with whom she finally fell to Bavaria in 1814. On 27 June 1978, a helicopter of the U.S. armed forces crashed into sub Altertheim. The nine occupants of the helicopter died.

Policy

The current mayor Adolf Hemrich - Manderbach ( future Altertheim ) triggered 24 years of service to the community standing Alfred Hemrich, Independent Civic Association (UB ) as mayor from 1 May 2008. Its representatives in office are the deputy mayor Elmar Kuhn (UB ) from Steinbach and the third Mayor Reinhold Drack (UB ) of sub Altertheim. All 14 councilors belong to the list of independent civil association.

Historical justification for the coat of arms: The merged in the new municipality Altertheim communities Oberaltertheim, Steinbach near Würzburg and sub ​​Altertheim once belonged to the dominion of the counts of Wertheim; according to their extinction ( 1556 ) went through this area to the Count's house Castell. Synagogue

In the district Oberaltertheim existed until the time of the Nazi dictatorship, a synagogue, whose establishment was demolished during the pogrom of November 1938.
