Altıntaş ( Turkish for Goldstein ) ( Syro -Aramaic ܟ ܝ ܦ ܝ ܪ ܙ ܝ, Keferze, also Kefr Zek or Kfarze, Kurdish Kevirzê ) is a town in the district of Midyat Mardin province in southeastern Turkey. The village is located about 15 km north-east of Midyat in Tur Abdin. 2005, the village had 12 Syrian Orthodox next 35-40 Kurdish families. In the village Turoyo and Kurdish is spoken.

History of Keferze

Keferze was first mentioned in 935. To Yezidis and Kurds in 1413 plundered the place. There are other mentions of the 15th and 19th centuries.

The British explorer Gertrude Bell, the Tur Abdin traveled around 1900, only the remains of the church Mor Izozoel found before. A comparison of this magnificent church with the " wretched huts " you gave an " impressive picture of splendor and decline of a culture."

Bishop Semun reported in 1855 in a message from Keferze that the prince Asdin Schin Buqtoyo the Tur Abdin attacked and destroyed the Christian churches. They killed four pastors, monks and many Christians.

1914/1915 before it was in Keferze about 160 Syrian Orthodox and 70 Muslim families. During this time three priests attended simultaneously for the moral and spiritual blessings of the village. In raids and massacres in 1915, large parts of the Christian population were displaced or killed. Today Keferze will invest primarily, like the other villages of the once Christian Tur Abdin, Kurdish inhabited.
