Alto Trás-os-Montes Subregion
The Alto Trás -os- Montes (formerly called the historical region of Trás -os- Montes, literally " Behind the Mountains" ) is a statistical subregion of Portugal. It is part of the Região Norte and consists of the districts of Bragança and Vila Real on. The subregion is bordered to the north and east to Spain in the south to the Douro subregion and to the west by the subregions Tamego, and Cávado Ave. The area of the sub-region is 8170 km ². 2001 223 259 people lived in the sub-region. It consists of 14 districts:
