Altwigshagen

Altwigshagen is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Greifswald in eastern Mecklenburg -Vorpommern and is part of the Office Torgelow - Ferdinandshof.

Geography

It lies at the northern edge of the Friedlander Great Meadow in flachwelligem terrain.

The municipality includes the districts of:

  • Charlotte Horst
  • Demnitz
  • Finke Brück
  • Wietstock.

History

Than 700 years ago Altwigshagen was founded as a manor settlement, making it the oldest municipality in the Torgelow - Ferdinandshof. It was an old fief of Schwerin, but then came into the possession of the family of Borcke, which was mainly located in Pomerania. In the church Altwigshagen are two epitaphs of the family in 1689 and 1747 available. The latter belongs to Georg Heinrich von Borcke (1686-1747), a Prussian lieutenant general.

The village has preserved its quiet character. Also worth mentioning are the listed buildings in the town center and the lake at the park.

The community part Finke bridge was later established as a Prussian- Vorpommern customs station as a post office.

On 1 January 2011, the formerly independent municipality Wietstock was incorporated from the Mecklenburg Western Pomerania.

  • The towerless Church Altwigshagen is a plastered building from field stone that has been extensively rebuilt in the second half of the 17th century. The west gable has been blinded later with boards.
  • St. Magdalene in Wietstock was built in the late 16th century on a rectangular plan of field stone. Formative the four pillars at the corners of the strut. The truss roof riders back to the 18th century.
  • In 1997, the home and Spinnstube Altwigshagen was established in the former school. Here the rural life of the past is described. Besides the topic of traditional sheep breeding is acting performances in the spiders. There are also short courses in spinning and felting.
  • Manor Altwigshagen very in need of rehabilitation, community park heavily overgrown.
  • Wietstock Manor was built around 1920.

Transport links

Thank car travelers from the south in the direction of Usedom, the cafe is on the B 109 (Berlin- Greifswald) lying 70 a term, it was long before the political change in one of the few rest houses on this busy route. At Altwigshagen the main railway Berlin- Stralsund passes, the nearest train station is in Ferdinandshof.
