Aluminum dodecaboride is an inorganic chemical compound of the aluminum from the group of borides.
Production and representation
Aluminum dodecaboride can be obtained by reaction of aluminum with sulfur and boron (III ) oxide. Add to that the mixture is still carbon, the result is the β - form.
Properties
Aluminum dodecaboride is a solid, which occurs in two forms. α - aluminum dodecaboride crystallized tetragonal (a = 101.6 pm, c = 142.8 pm ), β - aluminum dodecaboride crystallized orthorhombic (a = 123.4 pm, b = 126.3 pm, c = 50.8 pm ). The latter is a suitable starting material for the preparation of other borides in well -formed crystals.
