Aluminum orthophosphate, also briefly called aluminum phosphate, a rhombic crystals forming aluminum salt. In this connection, as aluminum is triply positively charged cations at the moment ( Al3 ), which is in electrostatic interactions with the phosphate anion ( PO43 - ).
Occurrence
In nature, aluminum orthophosphate occurs as a so-called berlinite, a colorless to pale pink mineral that is found in the Urals and in Sweden.
Synthesis
The orthophosphate can be selected from sodium phosphate, which is placed in an aluminum salt solution, win.
Use
Aluminum orthophosphate is used as a flux in the production of glasses, ceramics and glazes. In a mixture with calcium sulfate and sodium silicate is known as cement.
Gels containing aluminum orthophosphate, find application in medicine as an antacid.
Trade names
Aluminum phosphate is available in Germany under the name Phosphalugel commercially.
