Alvan Adams

Alvan Leigh Adams ( born July 19, 1954 in Lawrence, Kansas ) is a retired American professional basketball player.

College

From 1972-1975 Adams attended the University of Oklahoma and played for their basketball team the Sooners. During his time with the Sooners, he was the best player in the season 1973-1974, reaching a total of 21 double- doubles. This created previously only Gar Heard Island and in January 2009, the record was broken by Blake Griffin. In his best game for the Sooners he reached 40 points and 20 rebounds, which afterwards Wayman Tisdale and Blake Griffin was also successful. However, during his time in college he never reached the postseason. He was elected twice in an all-American team and 1975 Player of the Year Big Eight. As of 21 January 1998, his jersey number, 33, is no longer assigned when the Sooners.

NBA

After he was drafted into the NBA by the Suns, he met his old college coach John MacLeod again. In his rookie season he was after Paul Westphal best scorer of the team and reached with the team for the first time in club history the NBA Finals. The finals the team lost to the Boston Celtics 2-4. In addition, Adams was elected team this season All-Star and All- Rookie appointed at the end of the season as Rookie of the Year in the NBA team. After that he never reached in 12 years with the Suns again the Finals, because you mostly failed Lakers at Los Angeles. In the history of the Sun he has brought the most rebounds ( 6937 ), most games ( 988 ) completed and brought most steals ( 1289 ). His jersey with the number 33 is no longer awarded even with the Suns, but he allowed Grant Hill to wear these.
