Álvaro de Luna, Duke of Trujillo

Álvaro de Luna (* 1388-1390 in Cañete, † June 2, 1453 in Valladolid ), was the favorite of John II and constable of Castile and 1445-1453 Grand Master of the Order of Santiago.

He was born 1388-1390 in Cañete, the illegitimate son of Álvaro Martínez de Luna, who was mayor there. 1410 when he was with his uncle Pedro de Luna, the Archbishop of Toledo, sent.

Álvaro secured soon, a dominant influence over the child's king, but as long as his uncle Ferdinand ruled him just mere services were permitted. As this, however, was elected King of Aragon and was the regency in the hands of the king's mother Catherine of Lancaster, his power grew enormously.

Álvaro is described as a perfect master of etiquette, he mastered the art of riding, the lance and writing poetry. His character is represented very differently, but his relationship with the king seems to have been loyal. Under his rule, the needle was pushed back and strengthened the royal power.

But when the king married a second time, took his wife Isabella of Portugal, later mother of Isabella I, the power and moved the king to let Álvaro fall. This was in 1453 arrested and executed after a brief trial, on June 2, 1453.
