Álvaro Pierri

Alvaro Pierri (* 1952 in Montevideo, Uruguay) is an Uruguayan classical guitarist.

He comes from a family of musicians. His grandfather was the composer José Pierri Sapere ( 1886-1957 ). Alvaro Pierri was five years old his first music lessons on the piano and guitar of mother and aunt. Since the age of eleven he won several international awards, including the 18th Concours International Radio France Paris.

Later he studied with Abel Carlevaro and other renowned artists. In 1983 he made ​​his debut in Germany with the Berlin Philharmonic String Soloists. In addition to his solo career, he is also a particularly dedicated chamber musician and has performed with Frank Peter Zimmermann, Astor Piazzolla, the Cherubini Quartet and others.

His playing is characterized by a seemingly tireless spectrum of tonal colors, an intelligent and thoughtful phrasing as well as impulsive, agogically - roving, particularly expressive elements, which its diverse and quiet character arises.

Currently (2007) taught Pierri at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and in Montréal at the Conservatory, where he presides over a professorship.

Meanwhile, his discography includes more than a dozen CDs, including both solo and chamber music literature counts, including also recordings with famous orchestras (eg Concierto de Aranjuez).
