Álvaro Saborío (2010)

Álvaro Alberto Saborío Chacón ( born March 25, 1982 in Ciudad Quesada, Alajuela ) is a Costa Rican football player.

Club career

CD Saprissa

His professional career began at Saborío CD Saprissa in his Costa Rican home. Before that he played a few years for a variety of Mexican youth teams. In the 2003 /04 season he became top scorer of the season with 25 goals. During his time with Saprissa, he won the team a championship title and once the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Also at the FIFA Club World Cup 2005, he took part. He scored two goals and had to end up first place in the scoring charts to share with three other players.

FC Sion

After he took part in the Football World Cup 2006 for Costa Rica, he was taken from FC Sion under contract.

Due to its good performance was the manager of Stoke City, Tony Pulis, attentive to him. He wanted Saborío the summer of 2009 commit. But this did not happen, because Saborío was loaned to Bristol City

Bristol City

His first game for Bristol, he completed 13 September 2009 against Coventry City. A week later he scored his first goal. In February 2010 he left Bristol City and broke the contract with FC Sion on.

Real Salt Lake

In March 2010 he came to Real Salt Lake in Major League Soccer. There he was able to convince in the first season the same. In 2010, the team, the hit rate in the MLS obtain (45 goals). Saborío even scored twelve goals. In the CONCACAF Champions League, he scored six goals.

After this successful season, he signed a contract as a designated player for the next four years. He is the first player of MLS franchises who receives such a treaty status.
