Alvis Wayne

Alvis Wayne ( born December 31, 1937 in Paducah, Texas as Alvis Wayne Samford; † July 31, 2013 in Bacliff, Texas) was an American rockabilly singer, who was best known during the rockabilly revival in the UK.

Life

Growing up in rural Texas, Alvis Wayne was mainly influenced by old records of Jimmie Rodgers, Eddy Arnold and Bob Wills. At age ten he got his first guitar and two years later he made ​​her first appearance in bars and honky tonks. At age 20 he became a member of the band Tony Wayne and His Rhythm Wranglers.

In 1956 he recorded his first record at Westport Records with this band. His second release Do not Mean Maybe, Baby became a regional hit, which led to a tour of Texas in Texas. By 1960, Wayne continued to pursue his career, after which he was drafted into the Air Force. After his military service, he joined persists, but only in 2000 Ronnie Weiser was able to persuade him to an album. After Rockabilly Daddy followed in 2001 the second album I'm Proud of My Rockabilly Roots. Already in the 1970s Wayne had recorded at Weiser label Rollin ' Rock Records a few songs.

Wayne died on July 31, 2013 at the age of 75 years. He left behind his wife Fritzie Samford, with whom he was married 37 years, and two daughters and five grandchildren.
