Reception

Numerous broadcasts on the radio meant that the song Golden Brown by the most famous song by The Stranglers was. However, the placement in the charts with rank 30 singles in the UK chart was rather modest ..

In Europe, however, the song was a hit and reached number 15 in France and number 16 in Ireland.

In his book The Stranglers Song By Song, Hugh Cornwell wrote that he thought that the song could just as well as we did Golden Brown. He remembers that he was middle of the week for the prediction of chart position in the record label CBS Records and was surprised by the bad news. He also wrote: " We gave CBS a great thing, with which they could work and I could see the face of the powers, and that he knew that he had not delivered the desired performance. " ( " We'd givenName CBS something great to work with and i could see in this guy's face did he knew he Had not delivered " ), giving the impression leaves that it gives CBS the blame for the bad placement.

Music Video

The music video shows The Stranglers, who perform the song in a dark room. All members are on separate small stages, while the front man Hugh Cornwell stands on the ground below.

As Cornwell sings: Who has the fun? Is it always a man with a gun? ( German: Who has the fun Is it always the man with the gun? ) is a plaque with an allegorical representation of the sun shattered by a bullet.

After he sang: "Who gets the job of pushing the knob? That sort of responsibility you draw straws for, if you're mad enough " ( German: Who gets the order to push the button, this type of responsibility, for you draw matches, if you're crazy enough?) He presses the red button on the light switch, and then shines dazzling white light. The video ends by the band members go up the stairs and walk over a small mountain -like barrier against sunlight.
