Alyn McCauley

Alyn McCauley D. (* May 29, 1977 in Brockville, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and currently works as an assistant coach with the hockey team from Queen's University.

Career

Alyn McCauley started his career in 1993 in the Canadian Junior Football League OHL with the Ottawa 67 's. After two years in which he showed his skills to some extent, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1995 by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round at position 79. Only after that he developed in the OHL into an elite player. In the 1995/96 season he scored for Ottawa 82 points in 55 games and in the following year, 56 goals and 56 assists, which is why he won in two seasons for the MVP of the OHL. He received an even greater honor in 1997 by the federation of the three major Canadian junior leagues CHL, which distinguished him as the best player of the year. During his time in Ottawa, he also played in 1996 and 1997 for the U20 selection of Team Canada at the World Junior Championships and won the gold medal both times.

In the summer of 1997, he moved to the pros in the NHL, but not to the New Jersey Devils, who handed the rights to him in a transfer business at the beginning of the year to the Toronto Maple Leafs. In Toronto, he was immediately in the NHL on the ice. Since he had to concentrate more on the defensive, he could only reach six score and ten assists. In the 1998/99 season he has been improved and scored 24 points in 39 games. During the lockout and the failure of the NHL season 2004/ 05 McCauley studied for a year at the Athabasca University, but then returned to the San Jose Sharks, before he left the team as unrestricted free agent.

In summer 2006, he signed a contract with the Los Angeles Kings. Due to injuries, he only came to ten inserts in the 2006/07 season and his contract was not renewed in the summer of 2007. McCauley announced that he would be late returning to the ice again for the 2007 /08 season, because he wanted to fully recovering from his injury.
