Am Timan

Region

Am Timan is a city in Chad, and is the capital of the Salamat region. Am Timan " mother of twins " means that the origin of this name is unknown. In Am Timan there is an airport, the Am Timan Airport. The city lies on the River Salamat and close to the National Park Zakouma. Due to its proximity to the crisis area Darfur is staging point for refugees. The municipality is located in the Ramsar site Plaines d' inondation the Bahr Salamat et Aouk, which is one of the world's largest protected areas of this kind.
