Amacayacu National Park

The National Park Amacayacu is a national park in Colombia. The national park is adjacent to the Amazon and is also in the Departamento de Amazonas. The name Amacayacu comes from the Quechua language and means " Hammock River ". The nearest town is Leticia.

The national park was founded in 1975 by the Government of Colombia with the aim to preserve the unique flora and fauna of the Amazon region. The size of the national park of 293.500 hectares. There is a visitor center, which also offers tourist accommodation.

According to estimates by the National Park Authority live in the area of the park about 150 different species of mammals, 500 bird species and a wide variety of freshwater fish.

Also located on the park grounds, a number of settlements of the Ticuna.
