Amala and Kamala

Kamala (* probably 1912/1913; † November 14, 1929 ) and Amala (* 1919, † September 21, 1921 ) were two so-called wolf children, on October 9, 1920, West Bengal Medinipur district in India by missionary, priest and rector of the local orphanage Joseph Amrito Lal Singh were found. Singh documented his observations of the children in a diary.

After its discovery, significant sociological and developmental findings were collected.

According to the diary entries were found in the cave an aggressive wolf who defended it and two wolf cubs with their lives. Kamala was seven or eight years old, Amala about 18 months. The two girls were forcibly torn from a pack of wolves, and came to the orphanage of Midnapore. Presumably Amala and Kamala siblings. In captivity, the two girls showed the typical wolf children behaviors. They could be, for example, do not tighten, scratched and bit people who tried to approach them, rejected cooked food and walked on all fours. Your perception is said to be so heavily influenced by the sensory world of the wolves that they could accomplish impossible meaning benefits for people: So they were able to smell meat from a distance of about 60 meters and to hear imperceptible sounds for civilized people. Amala died in 1921, a year after the discovery of a kidney ailment. Upon the death of Amala Kamala showed signs of mourning. From this point, Kamala was also more accessible. She learned some words to speak and - painfully - to walk upright. She died in 1929 from uremia.
