Amalie of Saxe-Hildburghausen

Sophie Amalie Karoline of Saxe -Hildburghausen ( born July 21, 1732 in Hildburghausen, † June 19, 1799 in Öhringen ) was a princess of Saxe- Hildburghausen and by marriage Princess of Hohenlohe- New stone to Oehringen.

Life

Amalie was the youngest child and the only daughter of Duke Ernst Friedrich II of Saxe -Hildburghausen (1707-1745) from his marriage to Caroline (1700-1758), daughter of Count Philipp Karl von Erbach to Fuerstenau.

They married on January 28, 1749 in Hildburghausen Prince Ludwig of Hohenlohe- New stone to Oehringen ( 1723-1805 ). The only child of the marriage died early, so that the line became extinct with Ludwig and fell to Hohenlohe- Ingelfingen. In 1770 she took her in Hildburghausen disgraced brother Eugene and his wife to the court of Öhringen, where they both lived until her death.

Caroline is buried with her husband in a special resting place of the Collegiate Church Öhringen. Here is located in the southern transept also a marble relief of Caroline and her husband, which was created by the sculptor Johann Gottfried Schadow occasion of the golden wedding anniversary of the couple in 1799 in the style of classicism.
