Amalie of the Palatinate

Amalie of the Palatinate ( born July 25, 1490 Heidelberg, † January 6, 1525 in Szczecin ) from the family of Wittelsbach was a Countess Palatine of simmering and by marriage Duchess of Pomerania.

Life

Amalie was a daughter of the Elector Philipp of the Palatinate (1448-1508) from his marriage to Margaret (1456-1501), daughter of Duke Louis IX. of Bavaria- Landshut.

She married on 22 May 1513 Stettin Duke George I of Pomerania ( 1493-1531 ). The marriage had been driven by Prince Bogusław X who therefore sought the support of the Palatinate in his discussion of the Electorate of Brandenburg. At the same time George's cousin Duke Henry V. married to Mecklenburg with Amalie sister Helene. Amalie's marriage was celebrated with great pomp, attended by numerous princes. During the wedding ceremony, it should have come to dispute the envoys of the kings of Denmark and Poland to the ranking.

The Duchess was described as " modest " that knew how to use it as a reigning princess their state. Amalie's son Philip was educated from 1526 at the court of her brother Louis V of the Palatinate in Heidelberg.

Amalie, her life always sickly, died aged 34 and was buried in Szczecin.
