Amanda Overland
Amanda Overland ( born August 30, 1981 in Kitchener ) is a former Canadian Shorttrackerin.
She started at the age of four with speed skating and short track speed skating. Since 1998, she competed in national competitions before she was admitted in 2000 Canadian National Team. She trained under Sébastien Cros on Leistuzngszentrum in Montreal. In November 2002 she finally made her debut in the World Cup. DC at their second World Cup competition they reached in the season with second place for the first time a podium finish. At the last World Cup they could, also in the season, the first time to win a World Cup race. Even with their first World Cup in 2003 in Warsaw Overland was an immediate success. She won the silver medal in the relay. In the World Team Championship 2004 in St. Petersburg, she finished fourth.
Then Overland could draw attention to themselves only in the season of 2004 /05. It achieved six podiums, four in the season and two for the first time in a single race. Over 1000 meters she finished second, about 1500 m third parties. Over 1000 m, they also reached sixth place in the World Cup discipline. At the World Championships in Beijing they reached their best individual placings. In the all-around, she was eighth, over 1000 m they missed a medal in fourth just barely. With the Season Overland won the gold medal, but it was not used in the final, but only in the flow and in the semifinals. In the World Team Championships in Chuncheon, she won the bronze medal with teammates. The following season, 2005/ 06 Overland won in the relay their second World Cup race, but further podiums did not reach them. About 1000 m and 1500 m, it was the discipline Seventh World Cup. At the World Championships in Minneapolis, she won again a squadron coin. This time the quartet won the silver medal. In the World Team Championships in Montreal Overland repeated winning the bronze medal from the previous year. She qualified for the Olympic Games in Turin. There she was about 1000 m and 1500 m in five. In the season they won silver, although it was not used but only in the semifinals in the final.
In the season 2006/ 07 at Overland won its two home World Cup one podium finish in the season, including a World Cup victory. At the World Championships in Milan, she reached over 500 m as the best single result seventh. With the season they won bronze. In the World Team Championships in Budapest, she reached the third bronze medal in a row. Overland's last season 2007/ 08 in the top international earned her three more podium finishes, including a third place over 1000 m. Just like in the previous season, she won at the World Championships in Gangneung Season Silver and at the World Team Championships in Harbin bronze in the team.
Overland missed the following season due to injury and was unable in 2009 to qualify for the Canadian World Cup team. She finished then their active career. Overland's sister Cindy and her brother Kevin were also successful Shorttracker who took part in the Olympic Games in 1998 and 2002.
