Amanda Stewart

Amanda Stewart ( born 1959 in Sydney) is an Australian poet and performance artist.

Life

Amanda Stewart studied at the University of Technology in Sydney. Since the 1970s she produced lyrical texts, performances, broadcasting, film and multimedia works that have been performed in Australia, Japan, the United States and in Europe. From 1983 to 1993 she was a producer at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

In 1989, she founded the ensemble Machine for Making Sense, which she performs text - sound performances, 1995, the trio Allos. In 1990 she was co-author and producer of the film Eclipse of the Man-Made Sun. Between 1995 and 2001 she completed twelve performance tours through Europe. At the Sydney Festival 1997, the opera The Sinking of the Rainbow Warrior was premiered that Stewart had written with composer Colin Bright. In 1998, she brought the Set Selected Poems 1980-1996 ( book and CD out ), which won the Anne Elder Poetry Prize of the National Literary Awards in Australia the following year. In 2000 she received a production order of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra for two new pieces that have been performed in Munich in 2001.
