Amandola

Amandola ( in the local dialect: La amandola or Mannola ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 3687 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Fermo in the Marche. The community is located about 36 kilometers southwest of Fermo, about 23 kilometers northwest of Ascoli Piceno and about 36 km south-southwest of Macerata in the Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini. Amandola is immediately adjacent to the province of Macerata.

History

The municipality and town Amandola originated in 1248 from the merger of the towns (or fortifications ) Agello, Leone and Marrubino.

Traffic

In the township the former State Road 78 began Picena direction Ascoli Piceno, at the same time ended up here earlier Strada Statale 210 Fermana Faleriense. Both are provincial roads today. The narrow-gauge railway (950 mm) Porto San Giorgio - Amandola has been closed since 1956.
