Amandus Augustus Abendroth

Amandus Augustus Abendroth ( born October 16, 1767 in Hamburg, † December 17, 1842 ibid ) was Hamburgischer Senator, crack büttel bailiff and mayor of Hamburg since 1831.

Life

Amandus Augustus Abendroth is the son of originating from Scheibenbergstraße notary and Gerichtsprokurators Abraham Augustus Abendroth and born in Bargteheide Johanna Maria Groot. His mother died a few weeks after his birth. He studied in Erlangen and Göttingen Law and received his PhD in 1790 in Göttingen for " Doctor of Laws ". On October 6, 1792, he married the sister of his friend in Venice and later Senate colleague Johann Heinrich Bartels. From his marriage with Johanna Magdalena von Reck came from nine children, of whom one died shortly after birth. His eldest son August Abendroth was also a lawyer and was a patron of the arts. Another one of the children was the future citizenship deputies Carl Eduard Abendroth.

At 28, he was appointed head of arms of the city of Hamburg and five years later - elected to the Senate - in 1800. During the French occupation, he worked as a bailiff in Ritzebüttel. In 1811 he was brought back by the French as Maire to Hamburg. On February 24, 1813, a spontaneous popular uprising against the French occupation broke out. After he was defeated by use of the neighboring Altona to help called the Danish military, Abendroth organized a recruiting itself from the Hamburg merchants militia, which should continue to prevent looting in the homes of wealthy citizens. He wrote during exile by Napoleon 1813/14 reform font requests in Hamburg rebirth.

He founded in 1816 the North Sea resort Cuxhaven and Hamburg since 1821 was the first police men. With the idea to motivate people to help themselves, he founded in 1827 the Hamburger Sparkasse.

In 1799 Abendroth has been included in the covenant of Masonic, 1820 he was made an honorary Grand Master of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Hamburg Loge d' Hambourg (now Absalom to three nettles ).

Amandus Augustus Abendroth was buried on the day listed building hammer cemetery at Trinity Church in Hamburg- Hamm.

Honors

According to him the Abendroth school and Abendroth Road are in the Cuxhaven Amandus -Abendroth -Gymnasium, named.
