Amaro Rodríguez Felipe

Amaro Rodríguez y Felipe Tejera Machado better known as Amaro Pargo (* May 3, 1678 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tenerife, Spain, † October 14, 1747 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tenerife ) is considered one of Spain's most famous pirates.

Life

Pargos youth was affected by piracy in the Canary Islands. With his ships he later took part in the slave trade. He was able to accumulate a large fortune over time. Because of his friendship with the Dominican nun María de León Bello y Delgado ( Sor María de Jesús ) is engaged in charitable and Pargo had a special interest in supporting arms.

Pargo was raised to the peerage as Hidalgo in 1725. He died on October 14, 1747 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, and was buried in the monastery of San Domingo de La Laguna.

On 16 November 2013, the exhumation of his remains was conducted by a group of archaeologists and forensic physicians at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
