Amba (geology)

A Amba ( for " mountain fortress " in Amharic ) is a geomorphological phenomenon in Ethiopia. It refers to a table mountain with steep edges, which is often used for settlement and fortification purposes because of its inaccessibility. In Tigre these mountains are called Emba.

Among other battles of the Italian - Ethiopian War of 1936 have been named after these landmarks, such as those of Amba Amba Alagi and Aradam.
