Ambala (Hindi: अंबाला, Ambala ) is a city in the northern Indian state of Haryana on the border with the state of Punjab with approximately 196,000 inhabitants ( 2011 census ). It is the administrative seat of the district of Ambala.

The largest employer is the manufacturer of optical instruments, NK Jain Instruments Pvt. Ltd.. , The national leader in microscopes.

In Ambala are large bases of the Indian Army and Air Force.

Location

Ambala is located 150 km north of the federal capital New Delhi and is well connected by road and rail transport. The Grand Trunk Road, also called here National Highway 1, Ambala Cantt and Ambala performs.

Attractions

In the area of Ambala include the planned city Chandigarh (called " The City Beautiful" ) and Kurukshetra, where, according to the Bhagavad Gita, the Mahabharata battle was fought, to the sights.
