Ambarvalia

The Ambarvalia (from the Latin amb -, " around, around ," arvum: " field / field "; note the connection with urvare - plowing, explained in the sulcus primigenius ) were a rite of the Roman religion, which took place in the spring. He served the ceremony and expiation of the fields. At this festival a bull, a pig and a sheep were herded through the fields and later offered as animal sacrifices. Since belonging to Rome area grew, the festivities were set to specific places and committed here as feriae conceptiva. A frequently voiced and previously refuted guess is that the Ambarvalia are identical to the Arvales of the Fratres, the Arvalbrüdern committed in honor of Dea Dia celebrations.

A comparable in some respects rite for the city of Rome was the Amburbium.
