Ambassidae

The family of glass perch ( Ambassidae, Syn Chan Didae ) belongs to the group of the perch family ( Percomorphaceae ) and comprises 8 genera with almost 50 species.

Features

Glass perch are small, only two to 26 centimeters long fish. They have a high-backed, laterally compressed body. Many species are partially transparent so you can see the bones and internal organs. Glass have a high perch, first dorsal fin with seven or eight hard fin rays. The second dorsal fin has weichstrahlige seven to eleven rays, the anal fin has three hard - and seven to eleven soft rays.

Dissemination

The fish live in the coastal sea, brackish water and fresh water in the region of the Indian Ocean and the western tropical Pacific from Madagascar to India to Australia.

Way of life

Glass perch eat small crustaceans. For reproduction, they attach their eggs on aquatic plants or lay pelagic eggs.

Aquarium maintenance

Some species are kept in aquariums. They are considered sensitive Pfleglinge that take on live food and are very skittish. Some species were also grown. The tiny size of the larvae rearing very difficult.
