Amber Mountain fork-marked lemur

The Northern Gabelstreifenmaki ( Phaner electro montis ) is a primate of the group of lemurs.

Northern Gabelstreifenmakis are among the major representatives of the Gabelstreifenmakis. Their fur is colored silver gray, along the ridge extends a wide, clearly visible dorsal stripe to the tail. This typical Gabelstreifenmakis face pattern - two black stripes that extend from the top of the head over the eyes to the snout - is particularly clear in this species.

Northern Gabelstreifenmakis come like all lemurs before only on the island of Madagascar. Its distribution area covers only the Amber Mountain region at the northern tip of the island, their habitat are both storm and dry forests, they are spread to 1500 meters above sea level.

Little is known about the habits of these animals, probably agrees with that of the other Gabelstreifenmakis match. Consequently, they are nocturnal and feed primarily on tree sap, but also of other plant material and insects.

Due to the small distribution area, which is also pulled by the mining affected, the IUCN lists the species as "endangered" ( vulnerable ).
