Ambergris Cay

Big Ambergris Cay, Ambergris Cay only sometimes called, is the main island of Ambergris Cays, a small Atlantic island group in the area of ​​southeastern Caicos Islands.

The island is located two kilometers east of its sister island of Ambergris Cay Little, however, is contrary to that inhabited today. The settlements hot Astwood Ridge, Bonny Cove, Calico Jack Cottages, Columbus Beach Cottages, Beach Columbus, Hawkins Ridge, Le Grand Cottages, Lightbourne Point, Salt Rakers Cove and Whale Watchers Points.

The island's name is derived from Ambergris (English, German: Ambra ), one used for perfumery excretion product of sperm whales from that was washed up there earlier in large quantities.
