Àmbit metropolità de Barcelona

The Àmbit Metropolità de Barcelona is one of seven territories ( Ambit funcionals Territorials ), in the autonomous community of Catalonia, which was decided in 1995 with the Regional Plan ( Pla territorial general de Catalunya ) by law.

The Àmbit Metropolità Barcelona ( AMB) was defined by the Parliament of Catalonia in 1987. After that, the territory comprises 3236 km ² and has 4,992,193 inhabitants (2009 ). With 1,523 inhabitants / km ², the AMB is one of the 10 most densely populated regions of the European Union. The Àmbit located on the Mediterranean, to the city of Barcelona, it is heavily industrialized and one of the most important economic zones of Spain.
