Ambrose Ranney

Ambrose Arnold Ranney ( born April 17, 1821 in Townshend, Windham County, Vermont; † March 5, 1899 in Boston, Massachusetts ) was an American politician. Between 1881 and 1887 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Ambrose Ranney visited until 1844 Dartmouth College in Hanover (New Hampshire). After a subsequent law school in Woodstock and his 1848 was admitted to the bar he began to work in Boston in this profession. Later he hit as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1855 and 1857 he was an advisor to the City of Boston. In the years 1857, 1863 and 1864, he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Massachusetts.

In the congressional elections of 1880 Ranney was the third electoral district of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Walbridge A. Field on March 4, 1881. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1887 three legislative periods. In 1886, he defeated Democrat Leopold Morse. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Ambrose Ranney again practiced as a lawyer. He died on March 5, 1899 in Boston.
