Ambrosian Iliad

Ilias Ambrosiana, also Iliad picta, is the name given to the fragments of a large format illustrated manuscript of Homer's Iliad, which has been created around 500 Alexandria in Egypt. The 51 fragments of parchment with 58 thumbnails can now be found under the call number F 205 inf. in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan.

The end of 1609 came with the library of Gian Vincenzo Pinelli humanist ( 1535-1601 ), a paper manuscript of the 13th century in the Ambrosiana. It contained scholia to the Iliad. On the pages of the manuscript 51 fragments with the illustrations of 58 scenes from the Iliad were glued to the illustration. After the detachment was found that on the back of the pictures sections of the Homeric poem written in a majuscule, which is based on the ancient Roman uncial.
